Instructions
  1. Dissolve yeast in 3 tablespoons warm water and let stand 5 minutes. Add sugar, shortening, eggs, cup of warm water, salt, 2 cups flour and beat at low speed with electric mixer. (I use my stand mixer with dough hook for this entire recipe, even the kneading part). Stir in enough remaining flour to make soft dough. Knead 4 minutes.
  2. Place in well-greased bowl, cover and let rise until double. Divide into 4 balls. Using a rolling pin, roll each ball into a thin circle. Spread with softened butter. Slice into 12 sections (like cutting a piece of pie).
  3. Starting at outer edge of each section, roll towards point, making a crescent shape. Place on baking sheet (I usually line mine with parchment paper) and let rise again. Bake at 400 F for about 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
Recipe Notes

This recipe came from my mother-in-law, Norma Shields, and now I am teaching my granddaughter, Katie, to make them.
