To begin the holiday celebrations, the Little Rock Winds presents musical offerings of yuletide favorites performed with a cheerful chorus, delightful dancers, stunning soloists, and a right jolly old elf, 7:30 p.m. December 5th at UA-Pulaski Tech CHARTS Theater, 3000 West Scenic Drive, North Little Rock.
Music Director Israel Getzov leads the band with a full slate of guest artists. Tenor soloist Michael Oriatti of Batesville will perform a medley of Christmas songs from the 1950s and will present the perennial favorite, “O Holy Night” by Adolphe Adam. Pat Walker, meteorologist with KARK News, will provide a report of another kind as the narrator in “The Night Before Christmas” based on the well-known poem of the same title and arranged for narrator and wind symphony by Randol Alan Bass. The Concert Choir of Sylvan Hills High School, directed by Elaine Harris, will join their cheerful voices with the winds in a medley of Christmas tunes from Broadway. Rounding out the show with dance, the Arkansas Festival Ballet directed by Rebecca Miller Stalcup will present five characteristic dances from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker. Michele Hellstern of Cabot, winner of the conductor’s baton auction last summer, will lead the band on “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson. And of course, Santa is scheduled to make an appearance. Brent Walker, concert moderator, will keep the program moving and everyone informed with his colorful commentary.
The annual Stocking Stuffer Silent Auction opens at 6:30 p.m. and offers lots of items to fill those Christmas stockings. And, don’t miss the Selfies with Santa photo booth during intermission and after the show.
