Chocolate Banana Wontons with Peanut Butter Dipping Sauce. Photo by Juliana Goodwin.

Ingredients

Sauce

1/4 cup smooth peanut butter

1 tablespoon powdered sugar

1 cup marshmallow fluff

2 tablespoons hot water, more if needed

Wontons

8 cups vegetable or peanut oil, divided

1 (13-ounce) jar chocolate-hazelnut spread (like Nutella)

1 (12-ounce) package wonton wrappers

3 ripe bananas, quartered then sliced

Directions

For sauce: In a medium bowl, stir together all sauce ingredients together until smooth. If sauce is too thick, add another tablespoon of hot water. Set aside.

For wontons: In addition to wonton ingredients, you will need a bowl of water to dip your fingers or pastry brush and two plates/platters: one for raw wontons and a paper-towel-lined one for fried.

In a frying pan or cast-iron skillet, heat 4 cups oil over medium heat. Spread 1 teaspoon or more of chocolate-hazelnut spread in middle of a wonton wrapper. Place two or three banana slices in each wrapper. Using fingers or a pastry brush, moisten edges of wrapper with water, then fold in half to form a triangle, pressing the edges together to seal. Repeat with remaining ingredients. Test oil by dipping in one corner of a wonton; it should bubble immediately but not splatter. Fry for about 2 minutes or less per side. If wontons turn dark too quickly, reduce heat. You might have to switch out oil halfway through.

Note: This is a good project for kids to help assemble (not fry) wontons. These are best served immediately, so halftime is a great time to make them during the game.
