Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 medium apples peeled and finely chopped
Topping
- 2 Tbsp butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1/2 cup pecans chopped
Servings: cake
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350.
- In a large bowl, sift sugar, salt, baking soda, flour and baking powder.
- Add shortening and milk, stirring until combined.
- Stir in egg, vanilla extract and apples.
- Pour into square baking pan.
- In a small bowl, combine butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, flour and pecans.
- Sprinkle topping on cake prior to baking.
- Bake for about 45 minutes or until done.
