Rukaya Alrubaye of Fayetteville, a 2022 Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas Youth Tour delegate from Ozarks Electric Cooperative, was awarded the Glenn English National Cooperative Leadership Scholarship, winning $10,000.

Selected by her peers, Alrubaye was the 2022 Arkansas Youth Tour Leadership Council (YLC) delegate. In 2023, she was chosen to be the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) spokesperson for the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour program.

Alrubaye attends the University of Missouri at Kansas City, where she is enrolled in a six-year bachelor’s and medical school degree program.

“Rukaya is a shining example of an exceptional young leader. Her dedication, intelligence and passion were evident from the moment she attended Youth Tour. We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments,” said JD Lowery, Arkansas Youth Tour director and director of community and economic development for Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation (AECC).

The Glenn English National Cooperative Leadership Scholarship is awarded annually to a student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and service to the community. It is named in honor of the late Congressman English, a strong supporter of electric cooperatives.
