Sherwood’s The Humble Crumb Bakery offers a charming escape
Some restaurants serve a great meal. Others create an experience. The Humble Crumb Bakery in Sherwood does both.
From the moment Arkansas Living staff stepped through the door, it felt like we’d stumbled upon a hidden English tearoom. The scent of fresh-baked breads and pastries filled the air while vintage mismatched china, fresh flowers and soft instrumental music created an inviting atmosphere.

Although The Humble Crumb’s first-Tuesday tea service has become a beloved tradition, the business began with something much simpler: cinnamon rolls. More than a decade ago, owner Ruth Peters was given a cinnamon roll recipe by a friend, and she soon found herself baking batches for family, friends, teachers and neighbors.
In 2012, Ruth and her daughter-in-law, Betsy Peters, turned that recipe into a small farmers market business, selling fresh cinnamon rolls each week in Sherwood. As demand grew, the family expanded to the Little Rock Farmers Market before opening a tiny commercial bakery in 2015. Just two years later, they transformed a former daycare into today’s charming bakery, cafe, gift shop and tearoom.
Today, guests can stop in for breakfast or lunch throughout the week, enjoying fresh soups, salads, sandwiches, quiche, pastries and, of course, the famous cinnamon rolls. But Tuesday Tea remains one of The Humble Crumb’s signature experiences, offering an elegant escape.
The tea begins with each guest selecting a favorite blend of tea, served in individual white porcelain teapots and delicate teacups, complete with sugar cubes and milk.
We started with the Specialty Salad, fresh spinach topped with strawberries, candied pecans and a flavorful poppyseed dressing, alongside a bowl of Seasonal Soup, hearty chicken and wild rice soup that tasted like homemade comfort.
An assortment of sandwiches, scones and pastries then arrived on beautiful three-tiered serving trays, with each level offering something worth talking about.

The savory selections were impressive. Mozzarella and basil bruschetta, Cucumber Rounds with herbed cream cheese and delicate Spinach Mushroom Quiche disappeared quickly. Fresh-baked scones, both sweet and savory, were among the favorites, especially the Blueberry Ricotta Scone served with tangy lemon curd.
Mexican Wedding Cookies, Lemon Tarts and buttery Carmelita Bites provided the perfect ending to an afternoon tea that felt both indulgent and comforting. Don’t let the delicate presentation fool you. Tea service is surprisingly filling, and everyone left satisfied.
The heart of The Humble Crumb, however, is its people. Our gracious wait staff brought warmth and personality, making the experience feel effortless from beginning to end. Two of our servers were sisters whose easy camaraderie and cheerful hospitality perfectly matched the restaurant’s welcoming atmosphere. Their attentiveness elevated an already memorable afternoon into one we’ll gladly recommend.
While enjoying our meal, we watched mothers and daughters fill the greenery-covered patio, posing for photos in their floral dresses. It’s easy to see why Tuesday Tea has become a favorite for birthdays, bridal showers, baby showers and ladies’ day out.
Ruth says, “I never planned to have a bakery at this age, but it’s been so much fun building it with my daughter-in-law, Betsy. It’s such a surprise, and we’re excited to see where it goes.”
Tuesday Tea is offered by reservation on the first Tuesday of every month, making it easy to plan a memorable outing with friends or family. Whether you’re celebrating something special or simply looking for an excuse to slow down for an afternoon, The Humble Crumb offers far more than a meal. It’s a reminder that hospitality, homemade food and meaningful conversation never go out of style.
