A guiding principle for the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas is “Concern for Community.” Halea Anthony, manager of Human Resources Projects for Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation (AECC), recently received awards exemplifying this fundamental.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arkansas honored Anthony as the “Big of the Year” and “Match of the Year” with her Little Sister EK.
Anthony says, “It meant the world to me that I made a significant impact on someone else’s life and family.” After all, that’s the reason she became a Big Sister in October of 2021.
“The world can be so cruel at times, and I knew this would be a small way I could give back that love and kindness to someone who needed it,” Anthony says, adding that the year 2020 “really showed me what was important in life, and I knew that I wanted to be involved.”
Being involved, Anthony says, has helped her as much as it has helped EK: “EK has taught me to slow down and enjoy the little things. It’s okay to not be perfect, and actually, it’s more enjoyable when you aren’t. Be present and in the moment with those you cherish.”
And EK, Anthony says, is someone she cherishes the most: “I got a best friend and a sister!”
